The upcoming Tamale Central by-election has effectively been decided after two contenders withdrew from the race, leaving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Professor Alidu Seidu Mahama, as the sole nominee.

The Liberal Party of Ghana’s Ibrahim Mohammed Hafiz and the People’s National Convention’s Alidu Mohammed Nasir-deen, who had both filed their nomination forms on the final day, later submitted withdrawal letters. They explained that their decision was motivated by a desire to honor the memory of the late Member of Parliament whose passing created the vacancy.

According to the Tamale Metro Director of the Electoral Commission, Samson Anaba, a sole candidate will be declared unopposed and formally acclaimed on September 30, 2025. With these developments, Professor Alidu Seidu Mahama is set to represent the people of Tamale Central in Parliament.
