Tensions are mounting in Assin Fosu over a chieftaincy dispute that has prompted the Sunkwae Royal Family to call on the Central Regional House of Chiefs to adhere strictly to traditional customs and due process. The family claims the House’s alleged disregard for established procedures in the installation of a Paramount Chief is fueling unrest in the Affutuakwa Traditional Area.

James Acheampong, representing the Nifahene of Affutuakwa, expressed the family’s frustration, stating that the appointment of a Paramount Chief from outside the recognized royal lineage has sparked discontent. He emphasized the need for the House of Chiefs to respect traditional laws to ensure stability and restore peace in the area.

In a related development, Nana Kyeremateng Krompe II, Krontihene of the Affutuakwa Traditional Area, has appealed to security agencies such as the Ghana Immigration Service and Assin Fosu Police to maintain neutrality and avoid interference in chieftaincy matters. The Sunkwae Royal Family has further cautioned that the Central Regional House of Chiefs would be held accountable for any consequences should the situation escalate.
