An anti-drug operation at Assin Asaman and Owusukrom in the Assin South District of the Central Region has turned violent after some youths allegedly attacked traditional authorities, an Assembly Member and other members of the task force.

The Assembly Member for the Assin Asaman Electoral Area, Mr Gregory Ankomah Gyakye, said he and his team narrowly escaped being lynched during a four-day operation aimed at dismantling suspected drug dens in the communities.

The exercise led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of substances suspected to be cannabis, tramadol and cocaine, as well as an undisclosed amount of money.

However, the operation reportedly turned violent when some youths attacked the task force, vandalised the Assembly Member’s vehicle and inflicted cutlass wounds on a man accompanying the traditional leaders.

The three suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigations.

Mr Gyakye reaffirmed the community’s determination to fight illicit drug activities, stressing that such activities would not be allowed to undermine the peace and security of the area.
