Bodies of Helicopter Crash Victims Arrive in Accra with Full Military Honours

The mortal remains of the eight persons who died in the military helicopter crash on August 6 have arrived in Accra.

The bodies were received at Burma Camp in Accra and transported to the mortuary for preservation.

The deceased are:

  • Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
  • Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment and Science
  • Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
  • Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC
  • Mr. Samuel Aboagye
  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
  • Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, alongside other senior government officials, was present to receive the eight caskets, all draped in the national flag.

A full military ceremony was conducted to honour the departed compatriots.

Meanwhile, the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced a three day national mourning period.

“There will be three days of national mourning starting tomorrow, Thursday, August 7, 2025. The government, through the Chief of Staff, has directed that all flags fly at half-mast until further notice,” Mr. Ofosu stated.
