Defence and Environment Ministers Among Victims in Military Helicopter Crash — Chief of Staff Confirms

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has confirmed that Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed are among those who died in the fatal military helicopter crash.

He made the announcement during a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, August 6.

Also confirmed dead is former Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, who was on board the ill-fated helicopter.

Other victims include Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye, a former Member of Parliament. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was also among those who lost their lives.

The three crew members of the aircraft—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah have also been confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has intensified the search and recovery operation for the crashed Z9 Air Force helicopter, which went missing earlier on Tuesday during a flight from Accra to Obuasi.

The GAF officially confirmed the missing aircraft in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 6.
