The National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered the suspension of nine radio stations across Ghana for breaching broadcasting regulations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 12, the regulator said the action followed the lapse of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to correct their infractions.
“Six stations failed, refused, and neglected to comply with the regulatory amnesty by taking no action,” the NCA stated. While some non-compliant stations used the amnesty to address their violations, three others ignored outstanding issues such as the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter sites.
The Authority said the affected stations were also operating without valid Certificates of Compliance, in breach of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991).
The suspended stations are:
Donplus Multimedia Limited (Ho, 105.9 MHz)
Dreams Ghana Media Limited (New Abirem, 104.9 MHz)
Jam Multimedia Limited (Kintampo, 101.3 MHz)
Jewel Group Limited (Duayaw Nkwanta, 102.7 MHz)
Kandai Star Community Radio (Kpandai, 107.3 MHz)
Unique Gateway Communication Limited Wontumi
Multimedia Company Limited (Accra – 95.9 MHz; Kumasi – 101.3 MHz; Takoradi – 101.3 MHz)
The NCA reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing broadcasting laws and maintaining order in the media industry, adding that monitoring will continue to ensure strict compliance.
