Ghanaian innovator and church leader, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as “Kantanka,” has passed away at the age of 77. His family announced the news on Sunday, stating that he died peacefully on Thursday, September 11.

Safo, the founder of the Kristo Asafo Church and the Kantanka Group, was widely celebrated as one of Ghana’s foremost technologists. He earned national and international recognition for his pioneering work in locally manufactured vehicles, machinery, agricultural innovations, and his extensive philanthropic efforts. Admirers fondly described him as “the African Star.”

In a statement signed by his daughter, former Dome Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, the family described him as “a father to the fatherless” and “a beacon of hope for many.” “Ghana has indeed lost a gallant son and a true legend,” the statement said. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
