Twelve individuals have been remanded into prison custody by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for their alleged involvement in illegal mining activities that caused significant damage to portions of the Takoradi–Nsuta railway line.

The accused Dennis Adom, Alex Kofi Acquah, Kwame Simon, Isaac Arhin, Larri Koku, Lambon Moyisi, Ali Asoma, Nurudeen Kobina, Jude Azumah, Yendari Mombe, Jonathan Ayamdor, and Daniel Combat are all reported to be residents of Akyem.

They are facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit crime, engaging in mining without a license, and causing unlawful damage.

Appearing before Her Ladyship Hathia Ama Manu, the suspects’ pleas were not taken. Prosecutors informed the court that the case docket would be forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Department for legal advice.

The court ordered that the accused be remanded for two weeks, with a return date set for October 22, 2025.

Their arrest follows the circulation of a viral video showing illegal mining activities dangerously close to the railway line, as well as an incident involving the assault of a Ghana Railway Company staff member.

During the subsequent police operation, three water pumping machines were confiscated, and several chanfan machines used for the mining were destroyed.
