A one-and-a-half-year-old boy has died after falling into a toilet facility at Dunkwa Babianiha in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Speaking to Denkyiraman Radio News, the Assembly Member for the Babianiha Electoral Area, Mr Francis Nana Amuah, said he was out of town when he received calls from residents informing him about the incident.
He said he subsequently notified the Police, who directed the family to officially report the matter at the Police Station.
Mr Amuah said the family complied and lodged a formal complaint.
According to an account given by the child’s mother, she was washing and went to dispose of wastewater at the family’s toilet facility.
She said upon her return, she could not find her son, prompting her to raise the alarm.
Residents and family members subsequently mounted a search for the child and later found him dead inside the toilet facility.
The remains of the child have since been buried.
The incident has left residents of Babianiha deeply saddened, with calls for parents and guardians to exercise extra caution around toilet facilities and other potentially dangerous areas where young children could be exposed to danger.
