The Amenfi West Municipal Assembly has announced plans to implement a double-track system for Pragya tricycles operating within Asankrangwa, the municipal capital. The initiative seeks to ease the persistent traffic congestion that has troubled residents for several years.
According to municipal authorities, the rapid increase in tricycles has become a major cause of traffic build-up, particularly during peak hours. To address the situation, the assembly intends to categorize the tricycles into two operational groups that will alternate their working schedules.
Speaking to the media, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Priscilla Yorke, disclosed that the assembly had earlier engaged tricycle owners and leadership of the local association on May 30 to outline the plan, explain its benefits, and seek their cooperation.
The MCE further announced that the policy will officially take effect on Monday, November 17, 2025, warning that defaulters will face sanctions.
However, the decision has not been received well by some stakeholders. The Chairman of the Tricycle Operators Association, Nana Amponsah, has criticized the move, arguing that it will negatively affect both owners and riders.
Some residents have also expressed mixed reactions, saying the initiative may inconvenience commuters who depend heavily on tricycles for transportation. Others, however, believe it could help restore order on the town’s busy roads.
The Amenfi West Municipal Assembly maintains that the move is a necessary step toward improving traffic flow and promoting discipline within the local transport system.
