Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) has extended support to the rotation nurse who was recently assaulted by a mob at the hospital’s Emergency Unit.
The attack, which sparked widespread public outrage after videos circulated on social media, involved relatives of an accident victim clashing with medical staff over alleged delays in treatment. The situation escalated when activist Ralph St. William was accused of physically assaulting the nurse, prompting police intervention.
In response, hospital authorities have reached out to the affected staff member to assist her recovery. As part of their gesture, the hospital presented her with a replacement phone and GH₵800 to cover the items she lost during the incident. Management also provided additional financial support to aid her rehabilitation.
The hospital’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of health workers, noting that steps are being taken to strengthen security within the facility.
“We want to assure all staff that management stands firmly with them. Incidents of this nature will not be tolerated, and we are working with the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served,” officials stated.
The Ghana Medical Association and other health sector stakeholders have already condemned the attack, stressing that such incidents not only endanger lives but also demoralize frontline workers.
The hospital management has pledged to continue providing both moral and logistical support to the affected nurse while cooperating with law enforcement agencies handling the case.
