The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Upper Denkyira East, Hon. George Anane Coleman, led a community-wide clean-up exercise on Saturday, 3rd May 2025, as part of a renewed effort to promote environmental cleanliness. The exercise brought together residents, assembly members, traditional leaders, schools, and local businesses in a united front to tackle sanitation issues within the municipality. Participants cleaned streets, cleared drains, and collected waste, demonstrating a strong sense of civic responsibility and a shared commitment to improving the municipality’s environmental standards.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Coleman emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. He proposed a bi-monthly clean-up initiative to reduce the excessive accumulation of waste. “There’s a peculiar problem, and I’d appreciate it if the media and other stakeholders would help to curb that. We need to consider cleaning twice a month until the waste is reduced enough to go back to a once-a-month routine,” he explained. He added that such efforts are in line with the municipality’s broader goals of sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

The MCE expressed gratitude to all who supported the exercise with equipment and other resources and praised residents for turning out in large numbers to contribute. He also urged citizens to continue taking environmental issues seriously, highlighting the connection between cleanliness and spirituality. “We are all part of a particular religious group, and no religion accepts filthiness. If we want to walk with God, then we need to adopt the habit of being clean at all costs,” he advised.
