Government Announces State Funeral Programme for August 6 Helicopter Crash Victims

The government has released the programme for the final funeral rites of those who perished in the August 6 helicopter crash at Adansi Akrufuom.

Scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, the ceremony will be a full military service under the direction of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

At a press briefing on Thursday, August 14, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe outlined that the day’s events will be held in three stages:

  1. Recitals from the Bible and Qur’an
  2. The main funeral service
  3. Burial of the deceased

The pre-burial session is expected to run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

The Vice President is scheduled to arrive at 8:50 a.m., followed by President John Dramani Mahama at 9:00 a.m., officially opening the state ceremony.

Over the course of the three-hour programme, the biographies of all eight victims will be read, with tributes from family members, government officials, and representatives of various institutions.

Afterwards, the bodies of six victims will be conveyed to the military cemetery at Tse Addo for interment, with burial rituals conducted jointly by the Armed Forces and the respective churches of the deceased.

Two of the victims Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna were laid to rest earlier on Sunday, August 10, in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The six individuals to be buried on August 15 are:

  • Dr. Edward Omane Boamah
  • Dr. Samuel Sarpong
  • Mr. Samuel Aboagye
  • Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala
  • Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

Mr. Dogbe called on members of the public who plan to attend to arrive on time and adhere strictly to the security arrangements for the solemn occasion.
