Police in Assin Fosu have arrested 19-year-old Shadrack Kwame Gyamfi for his alleged involvement in the murder of Adwoa Attaa, a 57-year-old farmer, at Assin Dompim in the Central Region.
According to reports, the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in her room around 5 p.m. on Monday, bearing clear signs of violence, including blood stains, neck bruises, and facial injuries indicating a brutal assault.
Officers from the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command, led by District Crime Officer ASP Rosemond Duncan, quickly responded to the scene after receiving information about the incident. Their prompt investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, who is said to be the nephew of the deceased.
During interrogation, Gyamfi allegedly confessed to the act, claiming he attacked and killed his aunt after she refused to give him GH¢100 to buy food. He reportedly dragged her into the room and strangled her to death before attempting to conceal the crime.
The deceased’s daughter, Adwoa Achiamaa, revealed that she had earlier seen the suspect in her mother’s room. Her mother had been complaining about missing money, and when she noticed Gyamfi inside, she locked the door and called for help. However, before neighbors arrived, the suspect broke through a window and escaped. When they entered the room, they found the woman dead.
Chief Inspector Adams Appiah, the lead investigator at the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command, confirmed that the suspect has been detained and will be arraigned before the court today.
