A group of 784 newly posted teachers from the 2022 batch of College of Education graduates staged a protest at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters over the delayed issuance of staff IDs and non-payment of salaries for the past ten months.
According to the affected teachers, they have not received any salaries since their appointment on August 1, 2024, despite repeated follow-ups and assurances from GES officials.
Solomon Opoku Gyan, a member of the group, described the situation as dire, citing severe financial hardship and a lack of transparency from the Service.
“We’ve done our part by reporting to our stations and teaching for almost a year. Yet, we can’t access our staff IDs, and we haven’t been paid. Many of us are struggling to survive,” he said.
The teachers are demanding immediate intervention from GES to regularize their employment, issue staff IDs, and pay all outstanding salaries.
They claim the prolonged delay has not only caused emotional and financial distress but also led to the reported loss of lives among some of their colleagues.
