The Twifo Praso Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Kojo Andoh, for allegedly assaulting a six-year-old boy at Twifo Twansukoda in the Twifo Praso District of the Central Region.
The victim, Stephen Ampaw, was reportedly playing with his peers on Tuesday when a stone he threw landed in the suspect’s house. Police say Mr Andoh confronted the child and allegedly subjected him to physical punishment, resulting in injuries.
Mr Timothy Ampaw, father of the victim, expressed disappointment that the suspect failed to inform him about the incident. He said when he later confronted Mr Andoh, the suspect claimed he did not have time to report the matter to the parents and therefore handled it himself.
Mr Ampaw subsequently lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect. The police have issued a medical form to enable the child receive treatment at a health facility.
Police say investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be put before court if found culpable.
The incident has attracted concern within the community, with residents condemning what they described as unlawful punishment of a minor and calling for respect for the rule of law.
