Students of Diaso Senior High School in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region are distressed as their dormitory buildings remain incomplete and abandoned in the bush.
During a recent visit by the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Rudolf Amoako Gyampah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), and members of the media, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Benedicta Anto Mensah, highlighted the dire state of the school’s infrastructure. She revealed that male students are currently forced to sleep in classrooms, while their female counterparts occupy a dilapidated structure.
Responding to the situation, the DCE for the Diaso constituency, Hon. Isaac Nsiah, acknowledged the challenges and expressed his commitment to addressing them.
Speaking in an interview on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda, Hon. Nsiah said the school’s condition is a matter of concern and promised to explore all avenues to provide support.
He noted that while existing classroom blocks built under previous governments are functional and provide a conducive learning environment, the absence of completed dormitories remains a pressing issue.
Hon. Nsiah revealed that two separate contractors are currently working on the dormitory projects and assured that he will meet with them to expedite progress.
“I understand the need for dormitories and teachers’ bungalows to ensure the students’ comfort, so I’ll do everything possible to fast-track the construction,” he stated.
To enhance student safety, the DCE also announced that he has arranged with the District Police Commander to have an officer deployed to guard the school premises at night.
