The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a statement addressing the concerns of newly posted teachers who picketed its headquarters on Monday, June 23, over delays in the issuance of staff IDs and salary payments.
The affected teachers expressed frustration over months of unpaid wages. In response, GES explained that the delays are due to an expired financial clearance, which the current management inherited.
“The clearance, which allowed for the processing of salaries, expired on December 31, 2024,” the statement said.
Despite the setback, GES confirmed that budgetary provisions have been made in the 2025 National Budget to cover the affected teachers.
“We remain optimistic that the necessary funds will be released soon,” the Service assured.
GES also announced the formation of a joint technical committee, including five representatives from the affected teacher group. According to the Service, the committee is already working closely with GES management and has made significant progress toward resolving the issue.
The statement further appealed for consistent and coordinated leadership among the teacher groups, noting that frequent changes in representation have made it difficult to track concerns and streamline communication.
GES called for patience and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to transparency, equity, and staff welfare.
“We fully understand the frustrations of the affected teachers, but we respectfully urge patience and continued cooperation. GES remains committed to the overall welfare of all staff,” the statement concluded.
