Cocoa farmers in Sehwi Aboagyekrom, Western North Region, have expressed excitement over the Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) announcement to introduce new producer prices in August 2025.
The anticipated price increase, expected to surpass that of neighboring Ivory Coast, is seen as a significant boost to farmers’ incomes and a strategic move to address challenges within the cocoa industry.
COCOBOD CEO, Dr. Ransford Abbey, made the announcement during a working visit to the Western North and Western South Regions. Addressing farmers in Aboagyekrom, Dr. Abbey stated that the price hike aims to curb smuggling and provide financial support to cocoa farmers.
He emphasized that this decision is part of a broader initiative to enhance farmers’ livelihoods, prevent smuggling, and combat illegal mining activities in cocoa-growing areas.
The news brought relief to farmers who had been concerned about rumors of stagnant prices. They lauded COCOBOD’s commitment, noting that the price increment would stimulate production and make cocoa farming more appealing to younger generations.
