The Government of Ghana has signed a US$1.5 billion memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ENI, Vitol and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to boost the country’s oil and gas production capacity.

The agreement, concluded during the 2025 Africa Oil Week in Accra, is expected to increase gas output and optimise oil production as part of Ghana’s long-term energy strategy.

President John Dramani Mahama welcomed the deal, describing it as evidence of recent economic reforms bearing fruit. “Ghana is building a business environment that meets investors while safeguarding our national interest. The policy interventions introduced since I assumed office are yielding results,” he said.

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, also hailed the investment as a strong vote of confidence in Ghana’s petroleum sector. “This is not just a figure on paper; it is a commitment to job creation, a catalyst for infrastructure, and a boost to our economy,” he said.

The partnership is expected to create jobs, expand infrastructure and strengthen Ghana’s energy supply to support sustainable economic growth.
