The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed a total of GH₵392,031,851.26 to healthcare providers for services rendered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in December 2025 and January 2026.
The Authority said GH₵301,658,338.13 was paid in December 2025, while GH₵90,373,513.13 was released in January 2026.
A statement from the NHIA’s Finance Directorate said the payments covered claims that had been thoroughly vetted to ensure accuracy and compliance with established procedures.
It said public and private health facilities received the bulk of the funds, accounting for about 80.55 per cent of the total amount, while mission health facilities received the remaining 19.45 per cent.
In nominal terms, public facilities were paid GH₵157,164,301.62, private facilities received GH₵158,630,317.29, and mission facilities were paid GH₵76,237,232.35.
“The payments reflect the Authority’s resolve to promptly pay claims to enable healthcare providers to continue delivering quality services to NHIS members across the country,” the statement said.
The NHIA noted that timely reimbursement of claims was critical to ensuring that health facilities maintained operational efficiency, sustained service delivery, and continued supporting millions of Ghanaians enrolled on the Scheme.
It reiterated its commitment to improving its payment systems to ensure that healthcare providers were compensated fairly and on schedule to strengthen access to quality healthcare nationwide.
