The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has shut down some insurance company offices operating on its premises in Cape Coast and Sunyani for engaging in the illegal sale of Defective Vehicle (DV) plates.
The action followed investigations which uncovered unauthorized sale of DV plates to private individuals, inflated pricing and alleged facilitation of black-market transactions.
A DVLA statement said the illegal operations exploited members of the public and violated regulations governing the issuance of DV plates.
“Certain garage owners and operators have been bypassing the law by selling DV plates directly to private individuals,” the Authority said, adding that some insurance companies were “providing a physical hub for the black-market sale of these plates.”
The DVLA urged the public to exercise caution and obtain DV plates only through official channels.
It said the enforcement exercise formed part of its ongoing commitment to curb illegal activities and protect road users from unregulated vehicle practices.
