Former polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency have thrown their support behind Dr. Bryan Acheampong as the party’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

The group, operating under the banner of the Ajumako Chapter of the United Grassroots Club for Bryan Acheampong, held a press conference on Wednesday, urging party delegates especially in the Central Region to prioritise unity and the party’s long-term success over personal or factional loyalties.

Addressing the media, Chapter Leader Mr. Patrick Arthur described the NPP as “at a crossroads,” stressing that only a unified front can secure victory in 2028.

“The decision of over 40,648 polling station executives and more than 6,272 electoral area coordinators nationwide must be respected and taken seriously,” he stated. “We need a unifier, someone who can bring all factions together and that person is Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong.”

The group raised concerns about increasing tensions between supporters of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, claiming these rivalries have created a toxic atmosphere within the party.

Quoting from 1 Corinthians 3:4, Mr. Arthur drew parallels between the party’s internal strife and early divisions in the Christian church in Corinth, where followers aligned themselves with different leaders.

“The NPP is facing a similar situation today,” he said. “We must move beyond camps and focus on unity.”

According to the group, the rivalry between Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Agyapong has not only fragmented party structures but has also strained interfaith relationships among Christian and Muslim members who align with each figure.

The United Grassroots Club is urging all NPP delegates to unite behind Dr. Bryan Acheampong, whom they describe as the most viable candidate to bridge internal divisions and restore party cohesion.

“The emergence of either Dr. Bawumia or Mr. Agyapong risks deepening cracks in the party, which could prove costly in the 2028 general elections,” the group warned. “We cannot afford another electoral defeat.”

The statement concluded with a direct message to the national leadership:

“The NPP must choose unity over division. And unity, today, looks like Dr. Bryan Acheampong.”
