The Regional Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Yaw Amoabeng Acheampong, has shared insights on former Vice President and NPP 2024 Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s national Thank You Tour, which recently took place in parts of the Western and Western-North Regions of Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda program, Mr. Amoabeng disclosed that this tour marks the first phase of the initiative.
According to Mr. Amoabeng, during his interactions with the people, Dr. Bawumia openly acknowledged that key factors such as the controversial E-Levy and the National Cathedral project contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia also admitted that there was an element of “arrogance of power” among the leadership of the NPP during their time in office — a sentiment he said is supported by findings from the Mike Oquaye Committee’s report.
Mr. Amoabeng explained that the Thank You Tour was anchored on three main pillars:
- Expressing gratitude to party faithful and leaders for their loyalty and hard work,
- Acknowledging and apologizing for the party’s missteps, and
- Offering encouragement and hope for a better future under renewed leadership.
The Regional Organizer further stated that the NPP is working to “calm nerves” and restore hope among Ghanaians, positioning the party as a better alternative for future elections.
He noted, “The new government isn’t doing better than us, judging from their governance so far. There have been several controversies, including issues within the electricity sector. Very soon, Ghanaians will realize the shortcomings of the current administration and reconsider their trust in the NPP.”
Mr. Yaw Amoabeng Acheampong concluded by emphasizing that the NDC government has been given a four-year mandate and should be assessed at the end of that term. He said, “All assessments will be reserved until the end of the four years to determine whether the President has improved his leadership or remains characterized by the ‘bad leadership’ many accused him of during the elections.”
