The Ministry of Education has announced that it will provide financial support of GH₵994 per student each year to private senior high schools enrolled in the Free SHS initiative.
This commitment was revealed during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and the Conference of Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools, marking the official integration of selected private institutions into the government’s Free SHS policy.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu stated that the initiative is expected to benefit about 25,000 students, and aims to ease pressure on public schools and phase out the double-track system.
He further explained that parents who prefer boarding facilities for their wards may top up the government’s contribution to cover additional boarding-related expenses.
