Cocoa farmers across Ghana have threatened to embark on a nationwide demonstration next week over unpaid arrears owed by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for cocoa beans supplied since November 2025.

According to the farmers, the prolonged delay in payment stretching over several weeks has pushed many into serious financial distress, making it difficult to meet basic responsibilities such as healthcare costs and the payment of school fees.

Speaking to the media, the President of the Mankrong Cocoa Cooperative Farmers Association, Francis Teinor, appealed to COCOBOD and government officials to urgently intervene and settle the outstanding payments to prevent possible disruptions in the cocoa sector.

He explained that many farmers are struggling to access medical care due to lack of funds, while others are unable to pay their children’s school fees following the reopening of schools. He also noted that most farmers lack adequate storage facilities to keep their produce while awaiting payment.

Mr Teinor disclosed that farmers have gone for nearly six weeks without receiving payment for supplied cocoa beans, a situation he described as having severe implications for the industry.

He warned that if immediate action is not taken by COCOBOD management, particularly the Chief Executive Officer, cocoa farmers may resort to public demonstrations next week to press home their demands, stressing that frustration among farmers continues to grow.
