The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has raised concerns over alleged voter intimidation at the Wenchi Presby electoral area during the ongoing Akwatia by-election.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Mustapha accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deploying “machomen” to create tension and suppress turnout in what he described as an NPP stronghold.
“This is our base, so it’s clear why there would be efforts to reduce voter numbers. But I won’t stand by and let that happen,” he said.
Pointing to a group of men nearby, Mustapha insisted that despite denials, the NDC had indeed brought them into the polling area. “They keep denying it, but the so-called ‘machomen’ are right there. The hypocrisy must stop,” he added.
Despite his concerns, the NPP organiser expressed confidence in security agencies. “I trust the security services will do their job and keep things under control. So far, things are manageable,” he noted.
The Akwatia by-election is being keenly contested between the NPP and the NDC, with heightened security measures in place to ensure a peaceful process.
