The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, has unveiled a GH₵3 million project aimed at establishing an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Takoradi Hospital. The announcement was made during a media engagement at the Western Regional Residency.
Hon. Nelson described the absence of ICU facilities in the Western Region as a major setback to quality healthcare delivery, stressing the urgent need for action.
“It is worrying that our region has no Intensive Care Unit in any of its hospitals. This project is therefore a necessity, and we must all come together to make it a reality,” he stated.
He appealed to corporate organizations, philanthropists, and residents of the region to support the initiative, emphasizing that the provision of critical healthcare is a shared responsibility.
Dr. George Preprah, Medical Superintendent of Takoradi Hospital, echoed the urgency of the project, noting that lives are often lost due to the lack of ICU facilities.
“This initiative will help save countless lives and reduce preventable deaths. We are appealing for support whether financial or material from all stakeholders,” Dr. Preprah said.
The project, once completed, is expected to greatly enhance emergency and critical healthcare services across the Western Region.
