Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, has responded to Nigerian actress Bimbo Ademoye’s recent claims that her movie was pirated in Ghana.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Danku said Ademoye had not provided any verifiable evidence to back the allegations. According to her, the Authority had expressed readiness to investigate and even reached out to the actress for proof.
“We wanted to resolve the matter officially, but her response was that the person who informed her about the piracy had sent the message in disappearing mode,” she explained.
Danku stressed that without tangible evidence, the NFA could not proceed with the case. She further noted that tackling piracy is often a lengthy process, as the Authority collaborates with institutions such as the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Ministry of Communications. Many offending television stations, she added, are obscure and difficult to trace.
The piracy debate resurfaced after Nigerian actor Nosa Rex posted a profanity-laced social media rant, criticising Ghanaians and the local entertainment industry over similar concerns. Danku described his approach as reckless, saying, “Some filmmakers follow the right process by submitting evidence to the NFA. When someone chooses to hurl insults instead of working through official channels, it discourages us from pursuing the matter on their behalf.”
