The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs has begun disbursing monthly allowances to 9,085 Assembly Members across the country.

According to the sector Minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, each Assembly Member will receive GH₵1,300 per month to enhance their capacity in monitoring and evaluating government projects at the local level.

As part of this initiative, GH₵23.6 million has already been released to cover payments for April and May. The funds are part of a GH₵100 million tranche allocated in the 2025 national budget.

The Minister explained that the initiative falls under the government’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, which aims to strengthen grassroots governance and ensure effective implementation of manifesto pledges.

“The objective is to enhance their capacity and equip them with financial resources and logistics to deepen monitoring for all government projects,” he stated.

The move is expected to improve accountability and performance tracking of development projects in local communities.
