The Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) are set to determine the fate of eight Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who were unable to write their English Language paper after being involved in a road accident.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has assured that the matter is receiving urgent attention, and a solution will be found to safeguard the future of the affected students.
“The situation is deeply regrettable, and the students’ future must not be jeopardized,” the Minister said.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Education, together with GES and WAEC, is currently reviewing the issue and will implement appropriate remedial measures.
Mr. Iddrisu confirmed that he has received the names of the affected candidates and is personally monitoring developments.
“We will determine whether the students will write a supplementary paper or be offered an alternative,” he said, stressing the importance of ensuring fairness and protecting the students’ educational prospects.
The Minister also addressed other issues in the education sector, including the local production of sanitary pads, firmly declaring, “No more imports.”
