Minister of the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, is seeking private sector partnerships to enhance the Ghana Prisons Service’s agricultural initiatives.

This initiative aims to engage inmates in cultivating arable lands to provide food for the prison system and generate revenue.

In addition to agricultural projects, the minister plans to establish an industrial hub within the prison system, creating income-generating opportunities for inmates as part of their rehabilitation process.

During a meeting with the clergy in Kumasi, Muntaka Mubarak called on religious groups to support the government’s efforts in reforming inmates.

To address key challenges facing the Prisons Service, the minister also announced plans to introduce modern technology—such as X-ray scanners and surveillance cameras—to combat drug trafficking within prison facilities.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the role of the Prisons Service in rehabilitating offenders and ensuring their successful reintegration into society.
