The Upper Denkyira East Municipal Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Osafo Gyasi, has warned that homes without proper electrical examination are at high risk of fire outbreaks.

He said many domestic fires were caused by faulty wiring, overloaded sockets, substandard electrical appliances, and poor maintenance practices.

ADO I Gyasi explained that failure to regularly inspect and certify electrical systems left households vulnerable to sudden fire incidents.

He urged residents to engage qualified electricians to examine their electrical installations at least once a year to ensure safety.

The Fire Service PRO cautioned against the use of worn-out extension boards, connecting high-voltage appliances to a single socket, and leaving electrical devices plugged in overnight.

ADO I Gyasi appealed to landlords and homeowners to comply with fire safety regulations, stressing that inspections conducted by the Fire Service were preventive rather than punitive.

He also encouraged households to acquire basic fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and smoke alarms, to help protect lives and property.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has intensified public education campaigns across the municipality as the dry season increases the risk of fire outbreaks in homes and communities.
