The Denkyirahene, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV, has been sworn into office as President of the Denkyira Traditional Council (DTC).
The swearing-in ceremony took place during a meeting of the Traditional Council at the Amponsem Ahenfie in Dunkwa, the administrative capital of the Denkyira State.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the formal introduction and installation of the 26th Denkyirahene, following the receipt of his gazette certificate.
Justice Kwame Polley, a High Court Judge at Dunkwa, administered the Official Oath and Oath of Allegiance to the Denkyirahene.
Congratulating the King on his installation, Justice Polley commended the Denkyirahemaa, Nana Ama Ayensua III, and the traditional authorities for ensuring a peaceful installation of the 26th King of Denkyira.
He pledged to support the speedy determination of cases involving the Denkyira Traditional Area before the court.
The pledge followed an appeal by the Denkyirahemaa for assistance in resolving chieftaincy and other disputes within the traditional area.
On behalf of the divisional chiefs, sub-chiefs and other traditional authorities, the Gyaasehene, Barima Siaw Panin III, pledged their full support and cooperation to the new President of the Traditional Council.
In his acceptance speech, Denkyirahene Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities for the confidence reposed in him and for selecting him as the 26th King of Denkyira.
He said his immediate priority as President of the Traditional Council would be to promote peace, unity and development within the Denkyira State.
The Denkyirahene also expressed appreciation to the Denkyirahemaa, Nana Ama Ayensua III, Denkyira Abusuapanin, Nana Ponfo Agyemang III, and all traditional authorities for their respective roles in his selection and installation.
He further thanked traditional leaders who served as acting presidents of the Denkyira Traditional Council prior to his accession to the throne.
The King appealed to all traditional authorities to promote peace and bring chieftaincy and other disputes before his palace for amicable settlement instead of allowing them to linger in court.
Denkyirahene Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV disclosed that the Denkyira State would next year perform the final funeral rites for the late Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem III, after which the Odwira festival would be celebrated.
He, therefore, called for peace and unity within the kingdom ahead of the important traditional events, particularly in relation to the Diaso chieftaincy dispute.
According to him, Diaso, as the Adonteng Divisional Head, must take its rightful place within the Denkyira Traditional Council.
He urged the factions involved in the Diaso chieftaincy dispute to urgently resolve their differences ahead of the planned traditional events next year.
Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony were the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr Anthony Akwesi Sarpong; Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Mr Rudolf Amoakoh Gyampah; and other government officials.
