Lawyers for Dennis Miracles Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles, say their client has been unable to meet the bail conditions imposed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his arrest.
The legal team has raised concerns over the GH¢50 million bail bond, which requires three sureties, with two of them to be justified, describing the conditions as difficult to satisfy.
Lead Counsel Samuel Atta Akyea, speaking to the media at EOCO’s headquarters in Accra, questioned how his client could secure the required sureties and qualifying properties within the stipulated timeframe.
Mr Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was arrested by EOCO at the Accra International Airport.
EOCO said the arrest formed part of investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million during Mr Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
He was arrested alongside the former Accountant of the Secretariat, Gerald Appiah, as part of investigations into suspected misappropriation, diversion and other alleged financial offences.
The lawyers said they were engaging with the relevant authorities to resolve the matter and ensure that their client meets the bail requirements.
