The Upper Denkyira West District Assembly has convened a stakeholders’ meeting to address the need for responsible and sustainable mining practices in the area.

The meeting brought together key actors including representatives of the security services, NADMO, traditional leaders, and legal mining companies from the district and Amenfi East.

District Chief Executive, Hon. Nsiah Isaac, underscored the importance of responsible mining, urging operators to reclaim lands after mining. He issued a stern warning to illegal miners, stating that the Assembly would not shield anyone found violating mining regulations.

The Public Relations Officer for the Small-Scale Mining Association (SSMA), Mr. Azare Sylvester, pledged the association’s commitment to regulatory compliance. He appealed to other companies to stop illegal operations and align with government directives.

Mr. Azare further pledged to support efforts in identifying illegal miners and called for collaboration with the police and traditional authorities to strengthen enforcement.

Meanwhile, the SSMA Chairman for Amenfi East, Mr. Soku Anthony, blamed the persistence of illegal mining on some traditional leaders who permit unauthorized operators to mine on already reclaimed lands.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing mining laws, urging all miners to reclaim degraded sites and work within the legal framework.
