The former Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East, Dr. Festus Awuah Kwofie, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite and work together to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He said the peaceful conduct of the party’s presidential primaries should serve as a motivation for inclusiveness, teamwork, and renewed commitment among party faithful across the country.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with CJ on the National Agenda programme on Denkyiraman Radio on Monday, February 16, 2026, Dr. Awuah Kwofie said it was too early for party members to pressure the NPP flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to announce a running mate.
He called on party supporters to rally behind the flag bearer and focus on consolidating the party’s base, stressing that discussions about a vice-presidential candidate were premature at this stage.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia should be given the necessary space and time to make that decision at the appropriate moment.
“Let us give him time to decide on who becomes his running mate. We just attended a thanksgiving service yesterday; let us allow the process to run,” he said.
Dr. Awuah Kwofie added that as a former MP, he and other party elders had already visited the flag bearer to pledge their unflinching support and commitment towards the party’s future success.
