A 38-year-old man, Victor Antwi, has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a section of the Ahodwo High Tension community in Kumasi, leaving several residents homeless.
The incident occurred on the evening of the FIFA Club World Cup match between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
According to reports, the suspected arson was triggered by a relationship dispute between Antwi and his 25-year-old girlfriend, Madam Gladys Sarfowaah, who had recently ended their relationship.
In a fit of rage, Antwi allegedly stormed Gladys’s residence and set it on fire. The blaze quickly spread to nearby structures, causing significant destruction across the community.
The fire left several residents displaced and caused extensive damage to property.
Authorities have taken Antwi into custody, and investigations are currently underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
