The Twifo Praso District Court has remanded four inmates accused of assaulting and killing a fellow detainee while in police custody.
The suspects John Nuamah, a miner; Issah Ahmed, a driver; Jonathan Appiah, also a driver; and Michael Adakpagu, a mechanic have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Presided over by His Worship Maxwell Foli Kpodo, the court ordered that the accused persons remain in police custody for two weeks and adjourned the case to January 27, 2026.
Presenting the facts, the Central North Regional Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nana George Akomeah, told the court that the incident occurred on November 26, 2025.
According to the prosecution, the deceased, 40-year-old George Anim, was arrested in connection with an alleged defilement case involving a 14-year-old girl and was subsequently detained at the police station.
ASP Akomeah said the deceased was placed in a cell with 13 other inmates, including the accused persons, where a confrontation later occurred, resulting in the deceased sustaining injuries that led to his death.
The prosecutor requested additional time to enable investigators to complete their investigations and to await advice from the Attorney-General’s Department. The court granted the application and adjourned the case.
The hearing attracted relatives of the deceased, who expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the death and appealed for justice.
