Victoria, Seychelles Opposition leader Patrick Herminie has won Seychelles’ presidential election, defeating incumbent Wavel Ramkalawan in a runoff, official results show.
Herminie, of the United Seychelles (US) party, secured 52.7% of the vote against Ramkalawan’s 47.3%. In his victory speech, he pledged to reduce living costs, improve public services, and unite the nation, calling the result “a new chapter for all Seychellois.”
Ramkalawan accepted defeat and congratulated his successor, saying he leaves “a proud legacy.”
A former parliamentary speaker, Herminie had faced witchcraft charges in 2023, which were dropped last year. His party also regained a parliamentary majority, consolidating its return to power.
