The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race is beginning to take shape, with leading contenders embarking on nationwide tours to court delegates. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong have already mounted visible campaigns, while Kwabena Agyapong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum have so far maintained relatively muted activities.
But much of the spotlight is shifting toward Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Abetifi MP and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, who is being described by party insiders as “the strategist” in the race. Unlike his rivals, Acheampong has focused on quietly building a formidable grassroots network, assembling a large campaign team, and laying the foundation for a disciplined and coordinated campaign. His style, observers note, is less noise and more preparation.
Acheampong is seen as a bold and tactical leader, known for decisive moves such as canceling Ghana’s long-standing cocoa syndicated loan during his ministerial tenure. With strong grassroots ties, especially in the Eastern Region where he has consistently invested in education and community development, many believe his eventual entry onto the public campaign trail will be calculated and impactful. As the contest gathers momentum, the strategist’s next move could redefine the dynamics of the race.
