The Ministry of the Interior has declared Monday, September 22, 2025, a public holiday in observance of this year’s Founder’s Day.
The holiday marks the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, which falls on Sunday, September 21. In line with Ghanaian law, when a statutory holiday falls on a weekend, the President may designate the following weekday as the official holiday.
In a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry announced that President John Dramani Mahama, by Executive Instrument, has directed that the day be observed nationwide.
The declaration was made in accordance with the provisions of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, as amended.
