Educationist Mr. Stephen Nyani has praised the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the significant progress made in recent years, highlighting the government’s release of over GH¢5.3 billion to support education reforms.
Speaking on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda on Monday, September 1, he described the achievements as “highly encouraging,” citing investments in Free SHS, the School Feeding Programme, teacher trainee allowances, and the return of 99 schools to the single-track system. He also welcomed reforms aimed at improving teacher welfare and initiatives such as free sanitary pads for schoolgirls.
Mr. Nyani, however, called for urgent attention to two areas the timely release of the Capitation Grant and the completion of stalled E-Block projects. He explained that delays in the Capitation Grant disrupt basic school operations, forcing some schools to rely on loans.
He further urged the government to clearly communicate its plans for phasing out the double-track system under Free SHS, stressing that sustained reforms and transparent communication will help strengthen Ghana’s education system.
