The Denkyira Traditional Council has called on the government to urgently remove the Central North Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, and the Upper Denkyira West District Chief Executive (DCE), Isaac Nsiah, over alleged conduct it says threatens peace and stability in the Denkyira State.
The Council alleged that the actions of the two officials had raised serious concerns among traditional authorities and elders, particularly regarding chieftaincy matters and the maintenance of peace in the traditional area.
Barimah Siaw Panin III, Denkyira Gyaasehene, who addressed a press conference on behalf of the Council at the Amponsem Ahenfie in Dunkwa, alleged that DCOP Acquaye had shown support for individuals whose actions, according to the Council, had the potential to create tension and conflict within the Denkyira State.
The Council specifically cited what it described as the Police Commander’s support for the Dunkwa Hene, saying such conduct was contrary to the authority and position of the Overlord of Denkyira.
It further alleged that rather than protecting the peace and supporting legitimate traditional leadership, the Police Commander had provided protection and support to persons the Council accused of creating disturbances within the traditional area.
The Council also accused Mr Nsiah of allegedly interfering in chieftaincy affairs in the Upper Denkyira West District.
It said the DCE’s alleged involvement in traditional matters was inappropriate and had the potential to worsen existing tensions and undermine the authority of traditional leaders.
The press conference, attended by Nananom, traditional leaders and elders, expressed concern over what the Council described as increasing interference by government officials in matters traditionally within the jurisdiction of chiefs.
The Council, therefore, appealed to the government to take immediate action to address the concerns raised and remove the two officials, arguing that their continued presence could further threaten peace and stability in the Denkyira State.
The traditional authorities stressed the need for government officials, particularly those responsible for security and local administration, to collaborate with traditional leaders to preserve peace and prevent actions that could deepen divisions within the traditional area.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to peace and the protection of the dignity and authority of Denkyira traditional leadership, while urging the government to act swiftly on the concerns raised.
