A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and investor has secured a court writ to place an injunction on a proposed amendment seeking to extend the FA President’s term limit from two to three terms.

Last week, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo disclosed that the agenda for the upcoming 31st Ordinary Congress, scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, includes a motion to amend the statutes to allow the President to serve three terms instead of the current two.

The GFA member, affiliated with King Faisal, has petitioned the High Court to halt consideration of the amendment, arguing that it was not properly laid before Congress.

The term limit was introduced as part of reforms implemented by the Normalization Committee after the 2018 “Number 12” exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which led to the removal of then-FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi. The reforms capped the tenure of the FA President and Executive Council members to promote accountability and prevent overstay in office.
