The Assin Fosu District Court has remanded 28-year-old Abdul Karim, a driver of a DAF cargo truck, into police custody for allegedly knocking down and killing a five-year-old girl on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Presided over by His Worship Abdul Majeed Iliasu, the court heard that Karim was transporting 610 pieces of lumber from Manso Kaniago in the Ashanti Region to Accra when the incident occurred.
Prosecutor Chief Inspector Abagna Anyongo told the court that the accused failed to slow down at a designated pedestrian crossing near the Ghana Commercial Bank area. His truck fatally struck Abena Amoaniamaa, who was crossing the road at the time with her two elder sisters.
The young girl was killed instantly. Her body was later confirmed dead at St. Francis Xavier Hospital and has been deposited at the facility’s morgue.
Karim faces a series of charges, including overspeeding, careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm, and failure to observe road markings.
His plea was not taken, as the case docket has been sent to the Attorney General’s Department for advice. The accused is scheduled to reappear in court on September 17, 2025.
