The President of the Cocoa Farmers Association of Ghana, Mr. Johnson Fie, has responded to recent comments by the CEO of Cocobod concerning the cocoa producer price increase falling short of farmers’ expectations.

Speaking on Denkyiraman Radio, Mr. Fie acknowledged that the strength of the U.S. dollar could affect cocoa pricing. However, he emphasized that cocoa farmers still expect Cocobod to implement the Achieve FOB pricing system to ensure they receive a fairer share of the value chain.

He explained that under the Achieve FOB model, the cocoa buying price would be increased, allowing farmers to benefit more directly from global market prices.

Mr. Fie also called on the government to prioritize the export of at least 50 percent processed cocoa products instead of raw beans, arguing that this would add value and create more economic benefits for the country.

He concluded that adopting the Achieve FOB system would ensure a more equitable distribution of profits among cocoa farmers, the government, and Cocobod regardless of currency fluctuations.
