Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has confirmed the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, during a dawn raid conducted by armed state operatives.

According to Assafuah, eight men believed to be operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)—six of them masked and armed with AK-47 rifles—stormed Kumi’s residence and took him into custody.

Describing the arrest as “troubling,” the MP raised alarm over what he called the government’s increasingly heavy-handed tactics.

“These Rambo-style actions by government continue to raise concerns that bother on free speech and good governance,” Assafuah stated. He also took to social media, using the hashtag #FreeAdentaKumiNow to protest the arrest.

The motive for the operation remains unclear, and there has been no official comment from either the NIB or the Ministry of National Security. However, a viral video circulating online appears to show the moment of Kumi’s arrest.

Notably, Adenta Kumi had recently petitioned former President John Mahama to dissolve the committee investigating the removal of the Chief Justice, alleging misconduct.

He claimed that Justices Pwamang, Adibu-Asiedu, and Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi met with Thaddeus Sory lawyer for petitioner Daniel Ofori at Santoku Restaurant in Accra on May 15, 2025, where they allegedly discussed the case.

Kumi argued that this meeting could compromise the integrity of the ongoing inquiry.

Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
