The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has launched a nationwide operation to address the presence of undocumented migrants in major cities, with a particular focus on Accra.
The operation, which began on May 16, 2025, aims to enforce immigration laws and strengthen national security.
In a press release issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, the GIS stated that the move is part of its broader mandate to ensure that all foreign nationals residing in Ghana are doing so legally.
“We are currently assessing the outcomes of the operation and will provide further details to the public in due course,” the statement said.
The GIS noted that the operation is being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies. However, it has not yet disclosed specific figures or details regarding those affected.
The Service has urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities, assuring that all actions will adhere to due process.
Assistant Commissioner Amoako-Atta emphasized that the goal is to “sanitise the system, not to victimise law-abiding residents.”
