The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana has issued a one-week ultimatum to the government to address the prolonged delay in the disbursement of their allowances.

At a press briefing held on Wednesday, May 14, in Accra, the Association’s National President, Mr. Ebenezer Boateng, expressed deep frustration over what he described as “systematic neglect” by the Ministry of Health. He revealed that hundreds of rotational health workers have gone unpaid for nearly a year.

“We’ve worked tirelessly since May 2024 without pay, denied our rightful allowances,” Mr. Boateng stated.

“This isn’t an isolated incident. It’s a recurring issue that reflects the Ministry of Health’s continued disregard for our concerns over the past four years.”

According to the association, the financial strain has had severe consequences, including the deaths of five members and six others currently battling chronic illnesses without access to adequate medical care.

The association is demanding immediate financial clearance for all rotational nurses and midwives, followed by the full payment of all outstanding allowances within 14 days of clearance. They warned that failure to act could result in further action.

The group stressed the essential role rotational nurses and midwives play in the healthcare system and urged the government to address the issue with urgency.
